(Draft of news item - for A. E. Cahlan) This afternoon the Las Vegas Land and Water Company finished drilling their new well on North Fifth Street opposite the Las Vegas Ranch, producing a flow of approximately 45 gallons per minute. The well is over 300 feet deep and was drilled by John Frewalt, an experienced and old time well driller of this vicinity. The water produced will be used for domestic and dairy purposes at the Las Vegas Ranch, as during the past summer no water was available from Las Vegas creek, due to heavy consumption in the city, and the small spring across the roadway also dried up, making it nec-essary for the Ranch manager to secure water from outside sources for the protection of his dairy herd. In line with the Water Conservation program sponsored by the State Engineer and local parties inter-ested in the future development of Las Vegas Valley, the well is equipped with control valves so that the flow can be shut off and conserved when not actually required. 10-2-39.
