Today the picture has changed. There is a definite shortage of dancing showgirls and eventually this wlU peril major night club shows unless ways j . are found to plug this vital production gap. _ Donn Arden, who for more than 30 years has created, staged , and directed the world?╟╓s top night club and theatre shows Issued , this note of warning. He currently has three big shows | ?√ß In clubs-?╟úPzpzzl ?╟╓68?╟Ñ at the Desert Bin, the "Lido de Paris?╟Ñ at j the Stardust and the famed Lido Show in Paris. I One of the main reasons is that other crafts have Increased I the minimum pay and dancing showgirls are still receiving a j minimum of $193.00 a week. Girls are just not turning to the dance routine as they did 10 or 15 years ago. There is very I little incentive for young girls to become dancers. Only one . I solution remains and that is for producers and club owners I to pay more money. When Arden auditioned his last Desert ?√ß I Bin show, he ended up using about 80 per cent of those girls ?√ß I who?╟╓ve danced professionally for years-new faces are needed, ?╟≤ I but hard to find. . Arden says, ?╟úI believe you get what you pay for and money ^ I offers the newcomers a bigger incentive than anything else. -| Sure, we get them token raises, but considering the long time spent in rehearsals, this isn?╟╓t enough for a girl.* Looking over the show budget you know the money Is there!?╟Ñ The well known director points out that the era of the stage- door Johnny has vanished from the scene. Bi past decades, dancing showgirls could meet eligible bachelors with wealth, ?╟≤ j but today that breed of "spenders?╟Ñ no longer exists. "H the show producer would raise salaries, new talent could be recruited from the various dancing schools. Many I girls feel they can earn better salaries as doctor?╟╓s recep- * I tionists or secretaries?╟÷and they?╟╓re right. B we make our I jobs as glamorous and desirable as they should be and pay i | the kids enough, then we?╟╓ll $>ihe up with new talent and new 1 faces,?╟Ñ Arden stated. Arden would like to tour the country, knowing the potential , I of the theatre and the talent he could find. But with the cost ; I of living as it is, he can?╟╓t offer the kids anything but a lot at I hard work. His hands are tied and now it?╟╓s up h^Uie owners I to make the next moye. Bi twp months Arden will start audi- .- I tioning dancers and showgirls for the 8th edition of the ?╟úLido ?╟≤ I de Paris?╟Ñ revue for a May opening at the Stardust arid is hop- | ing for an increase in pay so that he can add new faces. Sahara. He?╟╓ll open for four weeks Jan. 30.
