    38. made for the tourist population. The Chamber of Commerce lists 167 hotels, tourist camps, trailer courts, rooming houses, and guest ranches in the Las Vegas area. In view of this, it is not con­sidered likely that any great redudtion in the per capita consumption will be possible. Future develop­ment may tend to increase the per capita consumption but increased awareness, on the part of the residents, of the value of water may tend to reduce individual usage. Consideration of these factors prompt the continued use of 200 gallons per capita per day for the computation of domestic consumption. The consumption of water during the year 1948 for cooling and miscellaneous uses was estimated at 2.74 MOD. This class of consumption may increase as the area develops, but it is unlikely that it will Increase in direct ratio with the population. The increased use of refrigeration for home cooling should compensate in some measure for the additional cooling required by the greater population. Consumption of water in the year 2000 for direct cooling and miscel­laneous uses is estimated at 4.0 MOD. The largest single water usage within the urban area is for lawn and garden watering.
