I passed for first reading an ordin-J lance designed to prohibit the* I waste of water during the sum- I mer months, and establishing* penalties of $50 fine or 25 days* in ja il for its violation. Under the ordinance, the waste \ of water is declared to be unlaw- j Iful and is defined, as: 1. Permitting a hydrant, tap, | I cock or valve connected with J I any water system to leak onto I I the ground or into the sink, , I bowl, toilet or tub connected j I with a sewer, cesspool, sump or | any other opening, after the person has been notified to | remedy the leak. 2. Perm itting t h e w ater j from any water system to flow from any,hose, tap, valve, hy- j drant, pipe or cock directly into any sewer or cesspool after no- j tice or knowledge thereof, with­out first putting such, water to beneficial use. 3. Perm itting or causing the water from any . water system to flow into any public street or alley within the city or upon j the lot or land of another after notice thereof. 4. The waste of water in j , any manner by any person, cor- j poration or association without j ' first putting same to beneficial, j -use. j 5. Perm itting with knowl- | 1 edge, water to escape before I beneficial use from any pipe, drain, or other .conveyor, either il above of below the surface of | the ground. The ordinance will be read for i the second time at the Ju ne m eet- 1 ing of the board and become ef- |j | fective then. The board also read a new meat j I ordinance, drafted by . the city j meat inspector, and ‘ordered it to j; publication, requesting 'all those ij interested to look over the pro- ij posed measure at once, and voice jp any objections they may h av e! before the city goes to the ex ­pense of publishing it.
