Sometime you have to travel 8,000 miles from your house to find your home!' u ^ ^ If you're Jewish, I think you'd be really interested in this. Like a lot of American Jews, you may have the same feeling that I do. A feeling that something basic is missing in our lives. It's hard to define, but I think it has to do with feeling connected?to other Jewish people, and to a sense of history. A friend of mine calls it 'belonging-ness.' Well, I just got back from my first Homecoming trip to Israel. And though I consider myself to be a world traveler, believe me, this was no ordinary vacation. For one thing, I didn't feel like a tourist. I felt like I belonged. I certainly saw a lot more than tourists ever get to see. I met one-on-one with Russian, Ethiopian, even Sarajevan immigrants to Israel. I learned how new immigrants are absorbed into the culture. r H r On one day, I had lunch with an Army colonel, and dinner with a member of Knesset! I also enjoyed the kind of wonder-ful moments that I expect to be part of a 'regular' vacation?plenty of sightseeing trips to major historic sites. I experienced the Wall, Masada, the Dead Sea and on and on... and I got to make some wonderful new American and Israeli friends. I went a long way from my home in Las Vegas to find that my spiritual home has been patiently waiting for me all along. Several new Homecoming trips are being planned right now. I can't encourage you enough to call today and discover Israel for yourself. ( What is a Homecoming? ? An adventure that takes you beyond tourist to insider. An experience that helps you discover your heritage. A chance to feel the strength, the vitality, the beauty of Israel. ? One of the best vacations you'll ever have. Five star hotels, Israel's finest tour guides, festive dinners, historic sites and busy cities, museums and kibbutzim and absorption centers, walking the streets of Jerusalem on Shabbat, visiting places that were actually there in Biblical days and still are here today. ? A chance to see things most tourists never get to see. Meet immigrants (olim) in their homes. Meet young Israelis. Get debriefed by top Israel leaders and government figures. ? An opportunity to learn and understand what Israel is all about, to help your community understand it, to enhance your leadership skills. And a chance to meet other young leaders from all over the United States. ? It's a value. Because Homecomings are planned and sponsored by the United Jewish Appeal and the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas, you get much more for your travel dollar?and without the usual travel headaches. ? Most of all, it's coming home. You're family. You belong.
