While I understand that the room­ing house has not paid on account of the overhead expense, it would pay if there were more room provided without -in­creasing the overhead expense. Consequently, I believe that could be made an inducement rather than a loss and that it would give us a place tp house oursingle men, and the remodeling of the houses would hold the married men. I have walked/ around las Vegas in the evening, and there is not a place in the town where a man can sit ^ down except on the sidewalk-* We have a couple of parks that should be an advertisement for the city, whereas they are'now a disgrace. A few dollars judiciously spent in these parks giving our employes and the citizens a place to congregate and sit down would be highly appre­ciated. Some ordinary board benches built in-ciicular form around the trees, and a* system of water pipes to automatically water these lawns, trim the trees and border walks/ would give the parks a presentable ap­pearance to the citizens and traveling public. We could put in a sprinkling system of scrap boiler flues at a nominal expense. We also have a ball park. At the end of the grand stand on one side there ought to be a basket ball court, and a tennis court on the other side. Both of these could probably be built for an expenditure of a $100. If these things were done, I believe it would tend to make our men satisfied, and we would get.the money back in rents and better service very quickly. On the Southern'Pacific at all of their desert points they have these club rooc^s where meals are fur­nished, beds provided, shower baths, swimming pool, library,; reading room, pool and billiard tables, checker boards, etc., ; and they have always considered it aa money well spent.
