( C O P Y ) % m Packing house for Sutherland Fruit Co., Riverside, Cal October 11, 1912. Mr. W. H. Bancroft, Mr. J. Ross Clark, Special Committee. Dear Sirs:- I enclose Form 30 to cover packing house to be erected at Riverside, to be leased to the Sutherland Fruit Company at a rental of 6% per anmiam on the cost of the building, amounting to $6143.00, and 10$ on the cost of the machinery, amounting to .$2659.00. The total cost of the building and machinery is considerably in excess of the estimated cost when the question of constructing this house was submitted to you in the first place, and receiving your approval. The excess in the preliminary estimate is partially due to an excess in the cost of the machinery and partly to an increase in the cost of the house. The principal excess in cost is due to the fact that Mr. Sutherland and other people in Riverside were very desirous of having the building sonstructed in the so-called "Mission" style, to Conform somewhat to our passenger station, which is just across the street from the location of the fruit house, and with the numerous other buildings on Seventh Street, RiveLrside, tha$ have been constructed in this°style. At first I was rather disposed to refuse to incur the additional expense, but the people of .Rivf£si£?^J+Sle VJncL strong plea to have the building constructed inthis style, and as Sutherland is willing to pay the interest on additional r»n<*+ T f>l+ that on the whole it was wise to comply with tne request^and therefore have had the estimate and plan made on that basis, and submit it herewith for your approval. It is quite important that the building be eompletedjy December 15th, in order to handle the coming crop, and l o do that we should commence the construction in the very near future. Yours truly, (signed) H.C.HUTT. HCN/SRB
