JUiN 14 1929 Los Angeles, June 13, 1929, 9215-355 Referring to your letter April 27 and previous correspondence regarding the general water situatipn at Las Vegas J President now advises that as there is a surplus of water that can be used for domestic and city purposes when the growth of the city demands, it will not be necessary at this time to consider installation of meters involving a considerable expenditure, and he has reached the* conclusion we should at as early a date as practicable take steps to obtain an increase in the water rates, local officers to pursue the matter diligently and use their discretion as to the best method of handling and the time for filing the application for such increase, application to be made to the proper public authorities for an increase of 100 per cent in the present flat rates; reserving, however, the right to proceed with installation of meters at a later date if such action becomes necessary to conserve the available supply* 'While the recommendation has been made that existing flat rates be increased 125 per cent, it appears an increase of 100 per cent will take care of all anticipated fixed charges and extensions, including an adequate rental to the Railroad
