WHEEL OF ROTARY DECEMBER 29, 1949 TODAY'S PROGRAM In place of Rev. Fr. Lambe, Rev. ?r. John Kinney, head of Catholic community welfare in Las Vegas, will be our pro-gram speaker for today. Because of certain similarity of race, Fr. Kinney will speak of Ould Ireland, just as Fr. Lambe was expected to do. But we can't help wonder how Fr. Lambe avoided a duty that once seemed so pleasant to him. * * * * * * * * * * LAST WEEK Last week was a very happy Merry Christmas Rotary party, with all our lovely Rotary Ann3 present and recipi-ents of gay little gifts from Santa Claus Jim Shaver. To bring us the real Christmas flavor, Sam Kurtz prevailed upon the ladies of the Mesquite Club Choral group to sing for us the joyous "Chimes of The Holy Night" cantata, which they did beautifully under the direction of their conductor, Mrs. Harry Cobb. The occasion, brightened by the gay and brilliant Christmas decorations of the Ramona Room, was an altogether happy one. * * * * * * * * * * HERE AGAIN 0. K. Adcock is, we hope, with us again today after a long, severe spell of sickness. We are mighty glad to have you back, 0. K. a 5) NEXT WEEK Next week we will revert to the more practical tilings of life. At our meeting Thursday, Jan-uary 5, 1950, William B. Chamber-lain, executive secretary of "Greater Arizona, Inc." will be our program speaker. The subject of the meeting will be "Industrial Development of the Southwest." * * * * * * * * * * * PLAN GREAT MEETING The Pasadena Rotary Club has invited President Leonard and as many members of Las Vegas Rotary Club as can possibly go, to join with them in a luncheon in honor of International President, Percy Hodgs on. Nearly twenty of the southern California Rotary Clubs are cancel-ling their regular meetings and joining with Pasadena in this great meeting of seven or eight hundred Rotarians. Leonard is planning to go and wishes to make it known that he will have transportation for several from Las Vegas. On January 6, 1950, at 9:45 a.m., Hugh Tiner is inviting us to a spec-ial convocation in the auditorium of George Pepperdine College, to honor President Hodgson. It will be a notable event and it is hoped there will be a good representation of .Las Vegas Rotary at the meeting. . WHEEL OF ROTARY Page 3 VISITING ROTARIANS Rotary visiters at our Christmas party last week were: FROM SCOTLAND The Editor of The Tticel has received a very interesting letter from Rotarian ¥. C. Innes, 20 Crossgate, Cupar, Fife, Scotland, mailed December 19th. Coming by airmail, this letter makes us feel much closer to the old country than we ever did before. The letter acknowl-edged receipt of some Desert Holly and some other things typical of this desert country. It touches on some interesting political features of Britain and is well worthy of reprinting as soon as we can find space in The Wheel for it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * TO OUR POET This editor has managed to find time and opportunity to mail a small box cf Desert Holly to our friend, R. Hayes Hamilton, Rhyming Rotarian, of the Club at Zenia, Ohio. We are sorry we could not get it off so that it would arrive before Christmas. * * * * * * * * * * * * * LES ALEXANDER A. R.
