July 18, 1940 Mr. Walter Bracken Special Representative Union Pacific Railroad Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Walter: I am advised that the matter of contributions to the Nevada Taxpayers association for the coming year is now under consideration. It is my further understanding that the Southern Pacific and the Western Pacific favor­ably regard the continuance of this association and to that end have either made or agreed to make their contri­butions. With respect to the Nevada Taxpayers Association, and prior to its last annual meeting, considerable thought was given to the question of its continuance. At that time I discussed the matter with several people and the general conclusion was that the association should be continued, first, for the reason that it has a recognized standing; second, it has a valuable name and third, if present interest discontinued it, there is a fair pros­pect that the name may be picked up by other interests for their particular uses. Following the annual meeting there appeared in the Reno Evening Gazette of May 33, 1940, an editorial on this organization. This editorial appeared at the top of the editorial column and its expression fully supported our views with reference to its value and the necessity for its continuance at this time. I am enclosing for your information and files three copies of that editorial. You can see therefrom the public value which adheres to that association and its name. For these reasons it is my recommendation that for the coming year at least this association be continued and the usual contributions be made to that end.
