The people o f Las V egas are urgently requested to cooperate to the fullest possible extent in conserving the w ater supply o f the C ity— Last night the C ity Com m issioners in special session passed an em ergency ordinance prohibiting the w aste o f w ater, and providing that the w atering o f lawns, trees, etc., m ay be done only between the hours o f 5:00 A. M. and 8 O’Clock in the Morning 5:00 P.M. and 8 O’Clock in the Evening. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? I In order that the people m ay know the reason therefor, and the seriousness o f the w ater situation, the follow ing facts are p resented : 1. During the past month more water passed through the Master Meter, measuring the supply of water to the City, than in any other month of the past four years. 2. Evidently a large portion of this water was not put to beneficial use, but was run into the sewer line. This is evidenced by the fact that the flow of water to the septic tank is so large that its capacity is being taxed, although it was constructed for a city o f twice our present population. 3. Over half the supply o f water in storage in the city reservoir has been used, and the water level therein is dropping at the rate o f 17 inches per week. 4. All water flowing through the mains is now devoted exclusively to the use o f the City; the Railroad Company is using no water from the mains, but is securing their supply by pumping the well in the railroad yards—the first time this has been necessary in 10 years. ^ The supply o f w ater flow ing from the well and springs is suf- • ficien t fo r all requirem ents if the w ater is used only where actually needed, and not wasted. I f you have a leaky faucet or a w ater valve that cannot be properly closed, please have it fixed. It is expected that this em ergency w ill exist fo r only about 60 days, and during this period w e solicit your earnest cooperation. Las Vegas Land am Water Company J(rental
