The matter of the street enroachment of the Wilshire Service Station at 3rd & Wyoming was presented to the Board at this time. Mr. J. A. Brewer, lessee of this property was present. Commissioner Bunker moved this matter be deferred until September 19, 1951. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker Commissioner Peccole moved the City Manager be authorized to proceed with the plans for the construction of the Bonanza Road Fire Station, and to enter into an agreement with Architects Zick and Sharp. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker Commissioner Jarrett moved the application of O. W. Glenn, Sal Sagev Hotel, Main and Fremont for license for one slot machine for the third quarter of 1951 be granted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Peccole and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent; Mayor Baker Commissioner Bunker moved the application of Uvalde Caperton, Cotton Club, 500 Jackson for license for one additional "21" game for the third quarter of 1951 be granted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker Commissioner Jarrett moved the application of Dave Stearns, Santa Anita Turf & Bar, 113 E. Fremont for one additional "21" table for the third quarter of 1951 be denied. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Commissioner Peccole passed his vote. Absent: Mayor Baker Commissioner Bunker moved the application of Scherer-Schellang-Shaprio, Las Vegas Club, 18 Fremont for gaming license for 15 additional slot machines for the third quarter of 1951 be granted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker Commissioner Bunker moved the application of Frank Mirabelli and Harry Ruggeroli, The Tavern Bar, 123 South 2nd Street for a Retail Beverage license for the third quarter of 1951 be approved, subject to investigation and recommendation by the Police Department Motion seconded by Commissioner Peccole and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker Commissioner Peccole moved the application of W. Gwilliam, Hertz U-Drive for license for a replacement U-Drive for the 3rd quarter be granted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker At this time a letter under date of August 28, 1951 received from Mrs. Robert Carey, 310 North 16th concerning smoking in theaters was presented and read to the Board. Commissioner Peccole moved this matter be referred to the Fire Chief for investigation, and that the ordinances which prohibit smoking except in allocated sections of the theater, be inforced. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent! Mayor Baker At this time the request of Mr. Stanley S. Kuthowsky of Los Angeles, Calif­ornia, dated September 4, 1951, for a reduction of the license required Itinerant Merchants, was presented to the Board for their consideration. Commissioner Peccole moved the above mentioned request for reduction of license be denied. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Peccole and His Honor Mayor Pro Tem Whipple voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Mayor Baker An application for license by H. J. Mulling, 610 North F Street, was pre­sented at this time. Mr. Mulling repairs sewing machines, and has been classified as an Itinerant Merchant by the City Clerk because he has no established place of business. Discussion was held and thereafter it was decided that Mr. Mulling should be requested to appear before the Board at a regular meeting.
