Oscar B. Goodman Las Vegas City Hall 400 East Stewart Avenue Las Vegas, Nevada 89101 Dear Mayor Goodman: It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of support for the inclusion of the Nevada Medical Center in the Downtown 100 Grand Project. Having been raised in Las Vegas, and having served as a Regent, an Assemblywoman, and a Member of Congress, I am fully cognizant of the need for more tertiary level diagnostic and treatment procedures in Las Vegas. The creation of an academic medical center in Downtown Las Vegas could well provide the stimulus to increase the level and scope of medical care in the region. As a graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, I am excited by the collaboration between the University of Nevada Reno and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Together, they can accomplish far more than they can accomplish separately. The close working relationship of clinicians and scientists from different disciplines will result in enhanced clinical research outcomes, better educational programs, and higher quality medical services. I understand that the Nevada Medical Center will also focus attention on the health care needs of older adults. Not only will coordinated education, research, and service programming result in more effective patient care, having numerous services in one location will facilitate access as well. I also believe that the creation of the academic medical center will have an impact on attracting bio-technology companies to the region and to the city's ability to attract businesses and individuals who want to live in a community with outstanding health care. Thank you for your visionary leadership, and I look forward to continuing to work with the City and with the citizens to make our community an even more enjoyable place to live. Sincerely, PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER
