Las Vegas - July 21, 1953 Memo to file: This date Mr. Dutch Schultz, city police officer In charge of enforcing City Ordinance preventing waste of water within the city limits, reported to me that the Ideal Asphalt Paving Co. at 721 Fremont Street, Las Vegas, Nevada was taking water from city fire hydrant located at 2 5 th and Ogden Street. The truck taking water had the above mentioned paving companys sign on it with License #T 8443. The officer did not know where t ,e water was being taken. The matter came to his attention through the fact that the hoses being used to load the trucks were in bad condition and a considerable amount of water was being wasted in the street adjacent to the fire hydrant. I called the Ideal Asphalt Paving Co. (Phone 3017) and advised Mr. Mendenhall, one of the owners of the company, that our franchise did not permit the sale of any water used outside the city limits and that he should therefore discontinue the taking of water from any city fire hydrant for use either at his asphalt mixing plant located in the county or for any other location outside the city limits. Mr. Mendenhall advised that he would discontinue his present practice of hauling water to points outside of city. limits, I could sell him water at 1 0 ^ per 10 0 0 gallons and that I would expect him to report to me monthly an honest measurement of the water taken by him for use within the city limits for any purpose whatsoever, Mr. Mendenhall agreed to comply.
