m Las Vegas - April 16, 1940 Mr. Frank Strong, Vice-President LVL&WCo. Los Angeles, California. 1 23-3 Dear Sir: Referring to your letter February 38th authorizing our participation at a cost of |10 per month in a program for conservation of water in the Las Vegas artesian basin. I am pleased to advise the program has thus far shown some very definite results and we are advised by the State Engineer that the saving of water as a result thereof now amounts to 700,000 gallons a day, which is certainly worth while. The representative from the State Engineer's office has now located 275 wells in the valley, which is the major portion of them, and regular checks will be kept on them to see that any water they produce is put to beneficial use in accordance with the state law. I am today asking our Auditor to voucher our portion of the expense for the remaining nine months of this year, after which time it is quite possible that this fund will be sustained by a tax of one or two mills as may be determined by the County Commissioners, fe are making the voucher payable to the State Engineer as Treasurer of the Las Vegas Artesian Fund, and the City and County will do likewise, as it is desirable to have this water check designated as an employee of the State. Very truly yours,
