"Of course, there are always a few minor problems; nothing that can't be ironed out before opening night Aug. 11," said Finley. Carpenters and welders and designers and seamstresses are busy with hammers, blowtorch- FAN-CIFUL?╟÷Director Donn Arden shows Holiday On Ice skating star Marei Langenbein how to hold the huge feather fans most effectively for her solo spot in the " Silver Anniversary" opener in Civic Coliseum Aug. 11. Arden never seems to worry about precarious footing on the ice; though he is no skater, he can demonstrate most of the steps and twirls in his soft-soled moccasins when necessary. Usually, however, he stands high in the balcony and shouts his orders to the skaters below. Tickets for the world premiere are on sale daily at the Coliseum box office. es, sketch boards and needles. Scenery looks exciting, even startling in one instance?╟÷the giant trees with grotesque faces such as might have confronted the fairy tale babes in the wood. Costumes are, as usual, fabulous; and generally "skate well." At the moment it is no problem, but the recent illness of Music Director Ben Stabler which necessitated his being unable to take on the job of composing the show's music this year, must have caused some uneasy feelings. However, Director Donn Arden brought in his own writing team, and Stabler will direct the orchestra; so all is going well on that front. Jim Brimer, the Knoxville pianist who gave up studies here to go with the HOI orchestra a few years back, has been replaced this year. He wanted to return to University of Tennessee. So if HOI has any problems, minor or otherwise, they are not showing so far as the casual- but-interested observer can see. Skaters seem happy with roles, and try harder each day to please their "perfectionist" director. That's good! Fingers crossed, there have been some bruises but no broken bones or disabling injuries so far. That's great! Tickets are selling fast at the Civic Coliseum box office; and mail or telephone. reservations coming in from the usual wide area. HOI '70 will be ready to zoom come Aug, 11; World Premiere night; and for the week- long performances to follow.
