Los Angeles, July 21, 1909. 59-PP Mr. W. H. B an croft, F ir s t Vice P resid en t, S a lt lake C ity , Utah. Dear S ir ; R e ferrin g to Mr. B e t t is ' jo in t le t t e r o f July 21st to the Committee,, enclosing l e t t e r from Walter R. Bracken, Water Agent at Las Vegas, g iv in g rep o rt on Breaks in the water main from _the springs to the ra ilro a d yards. You w i l l rememher Mr. T ilto n furnished the Committee under date o f June 16th an estimate coverin g new pipe lin e . I had hoped to see you and ta lk th is matter over, hut as the matter seems urgent I think we should a rriv e at some d ecisio n soon. Mr. T ilto n you w i l l note sta tes that the present sheet s te e l pipe is "badly decayed and has "but a short l i f e l e f t "before i t , and Mr. Bracken’ s le t t e r in d ica tes that there are numerous^leaks in the pipe lin e which has a ffe c te d the pressure in the townsite , and undoubtedly we are wasting money in continuing rep a irs to th is old pipe lin e . . Our water supply at Las Vegas has always Been s u ffic ie n t , and a great deal o f water goes to waste down on the ranch; and while w ith the shops and the increased population at Las Vegas no,doubt the water used w i l l increase m a te r ia lly ,yet I do not b e lie v e the increased consumption w i l l be enough to warrant us running pipe lin e s to a l l the d iffe r e n t sprin gs, lo c a tio n o f which i shown on the blue p rin t which accompanied Mr simply la y the pipe as fa r T ilt o n 's l e t t e r o f June 16th. My idea would be to as the r e s e r v o ir where the present s te e l pipe now ends; and. I favor •P« b|yJ a__l_l_ _m_e_a_n__s the 18 inch concrete pipe. E lim inating lin e "B" from spring ”B" estimated at $1757, would leave the t o t a l cost o f p u ttin g in the 18 inch concrete JLine from the r e s e r v o ir to the ra ilro a d tank $ Spring ”B" and b u ild in g fence around i t ; ahead with th is work as e a rly as p ossible ra ilro a d tank $ ll,2 0 3 .o o , which w i l l include damming and I b e lie v e we should go You w i l l note in the estimate fo r sand and g ra v e l fo r the concrete pipe lin e g ra v e l is estimated at 50^ per cubic yard and cement at $1.75 per b a r r e l. I think the cement is a l i t t l e low, fig u rin g fr e ig h t ra tes to Las Vegas. While Mr. T ilto n s gra vel fo r the shops, as per his le t t e r s o f the 19th and 20th, cost him 75d per cubic yard, I am s a t is fie d that the Operating Department can load .and la y i t down at Las Vegas w e ll w ith in the 50$ per yard estim a te. Very tr u ly yours, (S ig m & J - SOSB 0LJ.MK
