SAN PEDRO, LOS ANGELES AND SALT LAKE RAILROAD COMPANY TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT F. A. WAN N, GENERAL TRAFFIC MANAGER LOS ANGELES, cal.Jan * oOth, 1913 In Reply Refer to File No. A— -jPacking Houses; - Mr. J. H. Burtnar, D. F. & P. A., Hirers idle. Dear Sir;- I Hare jmst received a complaint from the Southern Pacific Company on account of this Company agreeing to build packing houses, which refers especially to the Southerland Fruit Co's packing house at Riverside - Mission style. It was my understanding in my talk with you that not only the Southern Pacific Company, but the Santa Fe, hare solicited our friends who wanted us to build packing houses and agreed on their part to furnish packing houses free of cost to such shippers. It is also my understanding that the Southern Pacific Company owns a great many packing houses in Southern California and lease same to the different packers, and that a few years ago the Southern Pacific built quite a large house at Redlands and installed electric machinery, besides building a warehouse, etc., for that plant. I would like the exact facts of any oases that have come under your notice. The Santa Fe contend that they have never built any packing house* on the line of their railroad, which is perhaps correct. I would like to get as prompt reply from you ae possible on this, and if you have any memoranda showing the number of packing houses owned toy the Southern Pacific Company, or the Santa Fe, if any, it will be appreciated. Yours truly,
