Form 2191-B C.S. 12-39-500,000—U Los Angeles, January 18* 1942* WMJ Omaha Met with City Commissioners, Las Vegas, yesterday and went into the situation generally with them. Mayor, who is undertaker, was out of City all day on account of airplane accident. Commissioners stated there was no misunderstanding on their part that the Water Company is taking steps to meet water requirements in connection with the housing development in that City* They further stated that WR8 *3 reply through press to Mayor*s recent letter was entirely satisfactory and that the water situation was well understood by all concerned. Called their attention to the very large per capita consumption of water in Las Vegas and the amount now being wasted by residents, particularly in connection with operation of desert coolers, and requested their assistance in definitely bringing home to all citizens the necessity for conservation in the amount of water used* Ordinance was passed in July 1939 providing penalty for waste , of water but has not been enforced. Commissioners agreed to follow this up and see that ordinance was enforced and suggested, as did Mr* Cahlaa in our conversation with him the day before, that we Inaugurate an educational campaign through the press, which would be issued over joint signature of proper city official and Mr* Bracken, impressing upon the people the demands we are now facing and that conservation in the use of water was necessary. Ordinance now in effect to also be given some publicity in these articles* U N I O N P A C I F I C R A I L R O A D C O M P A N Y Time Filed M TELEGRAM
