Nevertheless the person actually employed for this position was employed at a rate of #173 per month, which rate has not been Increased. One of the clerk-stenographers covered by the above mentioned application wae employed on December 1 , 1942, at the #160 per month rate and has received no Increase since her employment. I believe the foregoing information will Justify the proposed salary Increases covered by the application pending before you, and It will be greatly appreciated If you will take early action on the application because the employment situation of the applicant is n ow critical. The heaviest burden placed upon the Water Company is during the summer months, when there is a great increase in the consumption of water in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it is essential that the present force of the Company be maintained intact. Because of competition in the labor market at Las Vegas,Nevada, the management finds it extremely difficult to retain employees of the class mentioned in the application, and is extremely desirous of having the application for the proposed increases granted.
