September 11, 1966 Mrs. R. D. McLaughlin Central Valley Bridge Center 2131 F Street Sacramento, Calif. 95816 Dear Mrs. McLaughlins The scoring at the Las Vegas tournament will tje straight rubber bridge (not Chicago)* Honors count; part scores are added to make a game, etc. During the first two days you play 12 other pairs, 6 matches per day, each match of 8 hands. If you win 6 or more matches, you qualify for the knockouts. Otherwise, you are in the Consolation. 1 don?╟╓t know the rates at the Sands, but they are standard Las Vegas hotel rates ?╟÷ qhich are reasonable and quite competitive. I imagine they are just like any other hotel. I will be seeding the sections so must know who is playing. Strictly speaking, entries must be made Sunday, but I will accept entries by mail if I:-know the, people,,., if they send check with entry, and if there is a plane that gets them there by noon Monday. If time is close, I will have the plane met; and I can also arrange to have the pairs play their first round at the end of the session (against similarly late pairs) - --BUT THIS IS POSSIBLE ONLY IF I KNOW WHO IS COMING AND IF 1 HAVE AN ENTRY WITH A CHECK BY SUNDAY. The point is that I must have something to say to people who took the trouble to get there Sunday for registration, and I can do so if I have an advance entry with a check -- but not if I just have an expression of intention. Please explain the point to your people. We want them in the tournament and will do anything reasonable to make things possible for them. They will have a wonderful time. Hope to see you there. Sincerely, Alfred Sheinwold
