He takes his music to the people who cannot, for reasons of health or finances, attend other musical events. (702) 789-0225 RULES EIGHTH ANNUAL GOVERNOR'S ARTS AWARDS NOMINATIONS The Governor's Arts Awards are made annually in order to recognize outstanding contributions to the arts in Nevada. AWARDS: A total of no more than seven (7) Awards will be given in two (2) categories: ? Excellence in the Arts (artists and producing arts -Organizations; ? Service to the Arts (partrons, businesses, volunteers, arts service organizations, educators and others). A special citation for Distinguished Service, including posthumous recognition, may be awarded upon the discretion of the Council ? this category is not open for nomination. ELIGIBILITY: NOMINATIONS: EVALUATION: PRESENTATION: Nominees must be residents, corporations or organizations of Nevada, which have made a major contribution to the cultural life of our state. Previous recipients of either the NSCA Decade Award or Governor's Arts Awards, present NSCA Council, staff, consultants and their immediate household families are not eligible for nomination. Please use the nomination form on the reverse side of this announcement. A resume of the nominee must accompany the nomination. Any resident of Nevada may nominate candidates, except present NSCA Council members, staff, consultants and their immediate household families. Nominations must be postmarked no later than November 15, 1986. Late or illegible nominations cannot be considered. Nominations will be reviewed by members c? the Nevada State Council on the Arts, with selection of Award recipients made in December, 1986. The Council may choose not to give an award in a category if, in their opinion, it is not justified. The Awards will be presented at the Annual Awards Ceremony to held in Carson City on Friday, February 6, 1987. Nominations are encouraged from all individuals or organizations wishing to support a nominee. Additional nomination forms may be obtained from your local arts agency or by writing or calling the NSCA offices in Reno. (over ) HYMAN GOLD 2416 Laurie Dr. Las Vegas, NV 89102 EDUCATION He won Ranney Scholarship two years running at Cleveland Institute Of Music. He was a professional cellist at age 12, and has earned his living as a musician ever since. He has never held any other kind of job with the exception of doing defense work during World War Two, Hi PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS He has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, The Hollywood Bowl Symphony, The Ballet Russe, The New York Ballet, The San Francisco Opera Company, The New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (as featured cell soloist) to name just a few. He has appeared in many movie and TV productions as featured player, recording artist, and sideline musician for every major studio in Hollywood. He toured with the great Sigmund Romberg. He played for two of Ronald Reagan's Birthday Parties when he was Governor of California. He was a regular musician on Jack Benny's TV show for several seasons. He was featured cello soloist on recording albums, ENCORES, ONE STORMY NIGHT, ANOTHER STORMY NIGHT, and HOT BAGEL. He is member of orchestras and ensembles on countless others. He performed with his brother, Harry, and his sister, Jenny, as THE GOLD TRIO for 20 years. They played social affairs and Classical Concerts in the Cleveland Public Auditorium. Since moving to Las Vegas in 1973? he has played in every major Strip showroom with the biggest names in show business. He is currently at The Desert Inn with Sammy Davis, Jr. HYMAN GOLD (Page 2) He is "the Founder and ?Conductor of "the Las Vegas Pops Orchestra. He collected 1,800 signatures on a petition which was presented to Mayor Bill Briare and the City Commission to obtain a Showmobile for use the use of Concerts in the Parks. It has been a very successful addition to the Park Concerts. He is the Founder and Conductor of the Beverly Hills Ensemble. They have played up to this point 31 free-to-the-public concerts through the sponsorship of the City of Henderson. The City of Henderson awarded Hyman Gold and the Beverly Hills Ensemble a special Proclamation making them "Honorary Citizens of Henderson" for promoting such an interest in culture in their community. (Awarded in March, 1985) He annually performs the KOL NIDREI for Jewish Temples on Yom Kippur, and also plays on holidays for Trinity Temple, a Christian church. He taught Beginning Strings at Cashman Jr. High School for four years. ) He regularly performs for the Blind Center, and various convalescent homes and hospitals. He performs special musical programs in Elementary and Jr? High Schools. He is a member of the Allied Arts Council. He is a member of Local #47 in Los Angeles and also Local #369 AFM in Las Vegas. He served on the Board of Directors for #369 for six years. PERSONAL DATA He is married and has one son, Ronald, who lives with his family in Ohio. Besides his music, his interests include traveling,.gardening, building, bowling, tennis, and Scrabble. He and his wife, Sue, live with two cats and a dog, and with all of their interests are busy, productive, healthy, and happy members of our - Las Vegas family.
