CALL TO ORDER SENATE PRESIDENT LAXAGUE called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. II. ROLL CALL PRESENT ABSENT Jeremy Aguero Leia Fleischman Heather Anderson Michael Atherley Derrick Bruce Shawna Campbell David Fisk Frank Lideros Andreas Roell Robert Solomon Joaquin Trujillo Laura Zurek III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes 26-25 are up for approval. Motion to approve made by SENATOR SOLOMON, seconded by SENATOR RASMUSSEN. SENATOR CAMPBELL requested that the minutes be checked more carefully for typing errors in the future. Correction to minutes: Page 8, Item A(NB)...the motion for the amendment failed, with SENATORS CAMPBELL and FLEISCHMAN approving, SENATOR ZUREK abstaining, and the remainder of the Senate opposing. Move into a vote on approval. Motion passes 15-0-1. SENATOR PRICE abstained. IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS SENATE PRESIDENT LAXAGUE-Has arranged a time for the Senate retreat this Sunday, September 8, at Sunset Park from 3 to 8 p.m., and he is considering making the picnic a pot luck. The elections themselves will be held on October 3, 4 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. V. PUBLIC COMMENT [in accordance with N.R.S. 241.020 (2)(c)(3)] No comment from the gallery. VI. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Discussion/Approval of a candidate handbook for the Fall 1996 Student Senate and Homecoming Elections to be held on October 3, 4,1996 (proposed handbook available in the CSUN offices, MSU 160); Motion to approve made by SENATOR CAMPBELL, seconded by SENATOR PERSCH. SENATOR CAMPBELL stated that judging by her past experiences on elections boards, these rules are very thorough. Move into a vote. Motion passes 16-0-0. B. Discussion/Approval of a Senate Seat apportionment plan for the 27th Student senate Session (see attachment) ; Motion to approve made by SENATOR TRUJILLO, seconded by SENATOR LOPEZ. Move into a vote. Motion passes 16-0-0. VII. NEW BUSINESS No new business. VIII. GOOD OF THE SENATE SENATOR FISK—Apologized for having to leave the meeting early last week, it will not happen again. SENATOR BRUCE-Thanked President Rosenthal for the address last week. SENATOR PRICE-Premier UNLV as a great event, and he is looking forward to all of the event that are upcoming. SENATOR RASMUSSEN~He will be passing out football tickets with Organizations Director Bonghi. SENATOR MOORE-Reminded the senators to attend the Commuter Coffee Hour. SENATOR AGUERO-There will be a Bylaws meeting on Thursday, September 5, in the Senate chambers at 4 p.m. SENATOR ROELL— Has a soccer game on Friday, and he would appreciate if the Senators would come out to support him and the team. mo o z. ° lcrO j ;o U) mf-/? ' j j t r t y ! o- „ O o 2 SENATE MINUTES 26-26 / SEPTEMBER 2, 1996 SENATOR CAMPBELL--She has a tentative meeting scheduled for Ad Hoc Constitution for Friday at 12:30 p.m. Expressed that this meeting was not prudent, no one asked the Elections Board Director any questions, and it cost the students too much money. SENATOR PEREZ—Shared ideas with the Senate regarding the planned philanthropic event for the Senate, she would like to schedule it for Sept. 28, in the afternoon with food, games, entertainment and intramurals. SENATOR SOLOMON-Campus Safety and Awareness will be meeting Tuesday, in MSU 21 OS at 6:30 p.m. The CS&A proposals are in the Senators boxes. Premier UNLV was a great success and a lot of fun, he was the bottom of the V, look for him. The commuter coffee that he participated in went well. SENATOR LIDEROS--He has voluntarily turned down his stipend. He feels that the football team put in a good game. SENATOR LOPEZ—The football team and the Air Force team will be having a pep rally on Friday night at the Freemont experience. SENATOR PERSCH—Encouraged the Senate not to give up on the football team. Stated for the record that the University Police have made it a habit to park in the fire lanes on campus and that it is an illegal act that should not be happening. STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT ROSENTHAL-He has the tickets for the Senators for the football game if they want to pick them up. There is a pep rally and a soccer game and the Boogie Knights performance on Friday, encouraged the Senators to attend them all. SENATE PRESIDENT LAXAGUE—Thanked the Senate for coming out to attend the emergency meeting on a holiday. STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT MILLS-The proofs are in for the Senate board pictures outside the office. Reminded the Senators to tell their constituents about the buses that will be running to the football game from the union. IX. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn made by SENATOR MOORE, seconded by SENATOR TRUJILLO. Move into a vote. Motion passed 16-0-0.
