Rabbi Sanford Akselrad and Rabbi Louis Lederman lit the candles for Kristallnacht. Rabbi Lederman gave a short review of author Frank Littell, who will be speaking at the Holocaust conference November 10. Arne Rosencrantz and Marv Perer reported on their very successful and meaningful Jubilee Mission to Poland and Israel. Hal Ober gave his Campaign status report, stating that it had reached close to $763,000 to date, with the possibility of several big gifts caning in at the end of the year. Arne Rosencrantz reminded everyone that Super Sunday was caning up January 8 at the Riviera Hotel and that volunteers were still needed. Melanie Greenberg reported on the Women's Division and reiterated the four new projects they are undertaking. Mike Cherry, reporting on the Imperial Palace/Engelstad incident, felt the Federation could accomplish more by having one spokesman and remaining in the background until the Gaming Control Board completed their investigation. Greg Kamer, Chairman of the CRC Subcommittee, has been sued for libel and slander by Irv Rueben, Chairman of the National Jewish Defense League. Dennis Sabbath has offered his services in the defense of Greg. This is a matter that affects all members of the Federation and the suit cannot be taken lightly. Dennis will see that a response is filed in the Superior Court of Southern California and ask for a change of venue to Las Vegas. The JFLV has been named in the law suit too. Harriet and Samuel Donitz and Norman Seigenberg, representing the Jewish War Veterans, reported that veterans were planning a demonstration at the Imperial Palace Thursday at 4:00. This was not specifically a Jewish demonstration, but rather veterans as a whole. It was suggested that they try and discourage the demonstration. Beverly Eisen reminded everyone to attend the Holocaust conference at the Holiday Inn convention center Thursday, November 10. Marta Sorkin and Adam Tanenbaum reported that the UNLV Jewish Student Union is very successful and they are gaining a lot of interest on the UNLV campus. The Business & Professional luncheon will be held at noon, November 10 at the Limelighter with Dr. Allan Gerson, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General, as the speaker. Barry Eisen, president of JFSA, reminded everyone of the fundraiser to be held November 12 at the Gold Coast Hotel. There is a cost of $45 per person. Bert Black reported that there are plans for senior events for the community.JFLV BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING November 9, 1988 Page 3 Rabbi Lederman again reminded everyone about Kristallnacht and to leave their lights on from 6:30 this evening until sunrise tomorrow and to attend the Holocaust convention at the Holiday Inn and listen to Frank Littell as he is a major author and speaker. There being nothing further, Arne thanked us for caning and the meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Lenard Schwartzer, Secretary Beverly Eisen, Campaign Assistant
