Ordinance No. 135 An Ordinance of the City of Las Vegas defining "barber shops" and "barbers," prescribing the hours of opening and closing of barber shops, end providing a penalty, and repealing all Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith. THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS DO ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Sec. 1. The word "barber" shall include one who shaves or trims the beard or cuts or shampoos or dresses the hair or massages the face of any person for pay. A barber shop is any place where the work or business of a barber is done for pay; provided that "beauty parlors," are excepted from the provisions of this Ordinance, but "barber shops" located in "beauty parlors" or persons doing barber work in "beauty parlors" are specifically included within the provisions of this Ordinance. Sec. 2. No barber shop shall be open for business earlier than eight o'clock A. M., nor shall any such barber shop close later than six o'clock P. M. throughout the year, excepting on Saturdays and days preceding the following days: January 1, May 30, July 4, Labor Day, November 11, Armistice Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Days, when they shall close not later than eight o'clock P. M. All shops shall remain closed on Sundays and on January 1, May 30, July 4, Labor Day, November 11, Armistice Day, Thanksgiving and Christman Days. Sec. 3. Any person, firm or corporation violating the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction shall be fined not less than twenty- five dollars for the first offense, and not less than one hundred dollars for each subsequent offense, or by imprisonment in the City Jail until such fine is paid, not exceeding one day for each two dollars of such fine. It shall also be lawful for the Board of City Commissioners to revoke any license for violation of this ordinance and to refuse to issue a license to any person convicted of such violation. Sec. 4. All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Sec. 5. .This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and adoption and publication for one week (3 issues) in Las Vegas "Age", a tri­weekly newspaper published in the City of Las Vegas. Passed and adopted this 2nd day of May, 1929 upon the following vote: Commissioners Smith, German and W. B. Mundy, Mayor Pro tem voting aye. Noes; None. First reading April 15, 1929.
