McCunej For years past it has been the practice to per­mit shippers to show on th eir b i l l s o f lading, notation in­structing us to weigh oars either heavy or heavy and lig h t, and furnish them with weight c e rtific a te s* 3ust recently in having these cars weighed, but at the present time, we have missed weighing quite a few of them, and the contents have been unloaded before it was discovered that the ears were not weighed, with the re su lt that the shipper and consignee had no way o f a rriv in g at the weight o f the com­modity, which, as a ru le, is sold on a ton basis. and I would lik e to ascertain i f we should decline to per­mit shippers to show such instructions on th eir b i l l s of lading, and i f they do show i t , and we f a i l to perform the service requested, would we be held responsible fo r any cost that might be incurred in securing a weight* Some of . these shipments are interyard and some intrayard movements, others are line-haul movements.
