SCOTT A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas held this 30th day of September, 1953 was called to order at the hour of 7 : 45 P.M. by His Honor Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner City Attorney City Manager Asst. City Mgr. City Clerk C.D. Baker Wendell Bunker Rex A, Jarrett Harris P, Sharp Reed Whipple Howard W. Cannon R.V. Carey G.H. Rounthwaite Shirley Ballinger At this time His Honor requested a report from the City Manager's office regarding requests for bids for the furnishing of paint in order that Las Vegas might be airmarked. Assistant City Manager G.H. Rounthwaite advised the Commission that three bids had been received as follows: CITY SIGN CO. $270,00 BEST SIGN 190.00 NEVADA OUTDOOR ADVERTISING 360.00 Commissioner Bunker moved the low bid of Best Sign Co. in the amount of $190.00 be accepted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. The application of Helen Wagner Beauty Shop, 120 South 3rd Street for renewal of her license was considered at this time. Since this premise has been condemned the various departments concerned were unable to approve the request for renewal of said license. Discussion was held on the matter with Mrs. Stella Hawkins, property owner, in which Mrs. Hawkins requested that Mrs. Wagner be allowed to operate until she has secured another location. Thereafter Commissioner Jarrett moved that Mrs. Wagner be allowed sixty days to secure another location. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. This being the time heretofore set for the public hearing on the appeal by the Desert Palm Trailer Court of the denial of their application to add 80 units to their trailer court at 200 Owens, His Honor asked if there was anyone who wished to object to this use. There were no objections voiced. Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved this extension be approved and the addition of the 80 units be allowed. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. The application of G. Murchison to conduct an auto upholstery business at 210 South 1st Street, in a building that is in the process of being condemned, was considered by the Board at this time. Commissioner Jarrett moved the application of G. Murchison to operate this business in a condemned building be denied. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. At this time Mr. David Zenoff appeared on behalf of Alfred Ripps operator and licensee of Mike's Liquor Store to request that Mr. Ripps be granted an extension of time for demolition or repair of the building at 106 Fremont. Commissioner Bunker moved that Mr. Ripps be granted an extension of 90 days from October 14, 1953. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. The request of Mr. Lester Goldring, lessee of 108 Fremont for extension of 90 days before the enforcement of the order for demolition or repair of this building was considered at this time. Commissioner Jarrett moved that Mr. Goldrings request for extension of 90 days from October 17, 1953 be granted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none.
