The R a ilro a d Co*, as you know, owns and operates a l l o f the sp rin gs and w e lls and fu rn ish es w ater f o r i t s own use fo r tra n sp o rta tio n piirposes, to the Stock Y a rd s, to the PFE, to in d u s trie s lo c a te d on r a ilr o a d p rop erty , domestic wate# f o r tank oar d is t r ib u t io n , and t o t h e Las Vegas Land and Water Co. f o r i t s d is t r ib u t io n system servin g the C ity o f Las Vegas j The R a ilro a d Co. does not fu rn is h any w ater to the Las Vegas Ranchi Las Vegas Wash passes through the Ranch, and such w ater as is unavoidably passed over the r e s e r v o ir s p illw a y flo w s through the Wash to the Ranch and may o r may not be used by the Ranch ten an t, The w e lls and sp rin g s are not metered, nor is the flo w from our two s e t t lin g b a s i n e t d the r e s e r v o ir , nor the output from the r e s e r v o ir . Under present conditions our production la e s t i ­mated by w e irin g the sp rin gs and w e lls ©hoe a month, then keeping a reco rd o f hours that each sp rin g and each w e ll i s turned in to the* s e t t lin g b a s in s , and approximate t o t a l production so computed. We know that the output of the w e lls v a r ie s co n sid erably between the p e r io d ic a l w e ir measurements, so th at at b e st our fig u r e f o r monthly production is but an approxim ation. We have a water tender, R. Edwards, on duty 8 to 10 hours p e r day, and he c o n tro ls the flo w o f w e lls in to the r e s e r ­v o ir so that during h is to u r o f duty the re s e r v o ir i s kept f u l l without a p p re c ia b le o v e rflo w . When the water tender q u its f o r the n ig h t he re g u la te s v a lv e s so that lh h is Judgment there w i l l < be a f u l l tank in the morning w ith a:minimum o f o v e rflo w w aste. As there i s no meter fo r the o v e rflo w , we have no way o f determin­in g what the waste amounts t o . i ^ W ater furn ish ed to the R a ilro a d w ater so fte n e r i s not metered, but i s reaso n ably c lo s e ly approximated by w e ir measure­ment and hours O f use. Stock Y ard s, PFE, Pow erH ouse, and LVL&W \ d is t r ib u t io n lin e s are a l l metered. The R a ilro a d , however, has an unmetered connection from which i t fu rn ish es w ater to numerous in d u s trie s on R a ilro a d p ro p e rtie s and to the depot and grounds.
