    4
    Dear Cousin Johnie -
    line
    5
At this late day I will
    line
    6
    endeavor to answer your last
    line
    7
letter. I hope that you will
    line
    8
forgive me for so long neglecting
    line
    9
doing so. We are all well.
    line
    10
and as happy as we can ex-
    line
    11
pect to be. Aunt Mena has
    line
    12
    been quite sick since you
    line
    13
were here but she is better
    line
    14
    now. Some of the family
    line
    15
    are nearly cooked, but I
    line
    16
    am standing the warm weather
    line
    17
in fine style. I only wish
    Page

    line
    1
    that we could have warm
    Page 2 line 2
    weather more than we do.
    line 3
for I do not like winter,
    line 4
John was up to see us
    line 5
to day and he is the best
    line 6
of health and spirits - Married
    line 7
    life agrees with him all
    line 8
    right -
    line 9
I am very glad that the
    line 10
    folks think enough of you
    line 11
to put you to work as soon
    line 12
as possible for I believe I
    line 13
    have heard an old saying
    line 14
like this "Idleness is the mother
    line 15
of wickedness" or words to that
    line 16
    effect.
    line 17
    I don't pretend to know
    line 18
very much but it seems to
    line 19
me that it would be much
    line 20
better to stay at home than
    line 21
to go off to work in the mines
    line 22
    I don't know what kind
    Page 3 line 1
of people are down there but
    line 2
it is usually a rough claLL
    line 3
    that work at mining. So
    in
I think your mother is / the
    line 4
    line 5
right. You have been away so much anyway and I know that you must be a great help and comfort to Aunt Mary.
Cousin, you seem to think that it is all settled between "me and the other fellow." and you say I denied it. Well, I think that I confided just as much in you as you did in me, don't you think so? I will promise you this much that you will hear all about it when it is settled - That's all right, isn't it?
Aunt Sarah was down visiting us for two weeks. She had all her teeth out last Saturday and she went home on Tuesday. She stood it in fine style.
It is dinner time now so I must close by sending love to you and all the folks
