PI pll Mr. A. 2. Stoddard i You have received copy of a letter dated April ly 195**« addressed to me, by Thomas A Campbell, President, las Vegas Valley Water District, in which he requested that LYX&WCo. immediately proceed to develop new sources of eater supply la an amount of h,000,000 to 5*000*000 gallons daily, to provide additional amount necessary in order to prevent an acute eater shortage during the coming summer months. X have replied to Mr. Campbell's lottor as per attached copy. In view of the very large amount of additional eater which the District are requesting us to provide and the limitation in numbered paragraph 5* "The nee facilities should be so located that they will not interfere with the existing wells of the has Vegas land and Water Company. This may require the acquisition of new veil rights.” ws are quits unable to suggest any procedure under which such an amount of eater or anything like that amount could be provided. We are fearful that should we expend large sums of money in aa attempt to provide the additional eater requested, the results would be largely unsuccessful. In the present unpleasant political atmosphere which has already been created by the District end directed at the Water Company's operations* we feel quite sure we would be subjected to criticism and publicity which would bo unpleasant and probably harmful to the railroad. ?or this reason, we are planning to require from the District specific recommendations, cost figures and guarantees on every expenditure made for the plan. WO will koop you fully advised of developments and, of course, will undertake no work for which the Water Company will have to advance funds without having received proper authority and approval.
