Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:15 p.m. Chief Justice Earl Mitchell delivered the Oath of Office to Catherine Clay. Catherine Clay was then seated as Senator for the College of Hotel. II. III. Approval of Minutes The minutes were approved with no corrections. IV. Announcements CSUN President Anderson discussed the Board of Regents Meeting and those interested should attend. -Senator Kelleher arrived at the meeting at 4:20 p.m. Senate President Haldeman withdrew items G and J from the Agenda. -Senator Maestas arrived at the meeting at 4:22 p.m. V. New Business Senate President Haldeman asked the Senate if there were any objections to suspending with the rules and move directly into item H. There were no objections. H. Approval of funding for Financial Management in an amount not to exceed $1300.00 for Lecture Series. Senator Harrington moved to approve $1300.00. Senator Clay seconded. A representative for Financial Management addressed the Senate. -Senators' Nichols and Champagne arrived at the meeting at 4:25 p.m. Senator Harrington moved to amend his motion to decrease the amount to $300.00. ^Senator DiBenedetto seconded. Senator Harrington withdrew his motion completely. Senator Davis moved to table the item for 1 week. Senator Smith seconed. The motion to table for one week passed with 12 in favor, 2 opposed (Harrington,Clay) and 3 abstaining (Champagne,Nichols,Hendrick). A. Approval of Executive Board Nominations Ron Zayas to Publications Board Chairman Cathy Clay to Pulications Board member Bill Haldeman " Kai Fischer " " Jackie Corbett" 11 Andy Nichols to Appropriations Board Chairman (Kai Fischer will resign upon approval). Senator DiBenedetto moved to approve the nominations as a whole. There were a multitude of seconds. The motion passed with 11 in favor, 3 opposed (Holm, Davis,Adams) and 3 abstaining (Clay,Maestas, Champagne). B. Approval of amendment to Publication Board Operating Policy No action was taken. C. Nominations for Vacant Education Senate Seat. Michelle Wong D. Appointment of Senator Education College Seat Senate President Haldeman announced that Michelle Wong wouldn't be present until later in the meeting. No action was taken at this time. S.M. 15-20 -3- E. Approval of Organizations 1. Delta Zeta 2. Delta Zeta Pledge (this was withdrawn) 3. Black Awareness Society 4. Korean American Student Association Senator DiBenedetto moved to approve 1 and 4. Senator Kim seconded. A representative from the Korean American Student Association addressed the Senate. Cathy Clay addressed the Senate for Delta Zeta. The motion passed with 16 in favor, 0 opposed, and 1 abstaining (Harrington). F. Waive Bylaw 15 to consider items G & H. This item was withdrawn as it was not needed. G. Approval of funding not to exceed $400.00 for the Students for Conservative Government for Candidates Forum. This item was withdrawn. H. This item was taken care of earlier. I. Approval of Janu Tarnell to Radio Board Senator Smith moved to approve. Senator Harrington seconded. The motion passed with 17 in favor, 0 opposed, and 0 abstaining. J. Recind action whereby contract with Best Productions was approved. This item was withdrawn. K. Approval of contract with Romney Smith for DJ on April 12, 1985 for Ladies Night in an amount not to exceed $250.00 —E&P. This item was withdrawn.as the party was canceled. L. Motion to recind approval of spending for CSUN counter ($1,000.00) and desks ($700.00). Senator Holm moved to approve. Senator Harrington seconded. The motion passed with 15 in favor, 2 opposed (DiBenedetto,Nichols) and 0 abstaining. M. Approval of contract between Rob Hatchcock and KUNV, Dance on April 19, 1985. No action was taken at this time. Senate President Haldeman asked the Senate if there were any objections to suspend with the rules and move to item P. There were no objections. P. Appointment of James Ohriner to Ad Hoc Constitutional Revision Committee Senator Maestas moved to approve. Senator Harrington seconded. Senator Larson offered a friendly amendment including Sam Lieberman to Ad Hoc Bookstore Committee. The maker of the motion accepted, the second did not concurr. The motion to appoint James Ohriner passed with 16 in favor, 1 opposed (Adams) and 0 abstaining. S. M. 15-20 4 N. Motion to dissolve Ad Hoc Bookstore, Constitutional Revision Committee and Referenda Committees. Senator DiBenedetto moved to dissolve the Ad Hoc Constitutional Revision and Referenda Committees. Senator Nichols seconded. The motion passed with 17 in favor, 0 opposed and 0 abstaining. 0. Appointment of Sam Lieberman to Chairman of Ad Hoc Bookstore Committee. Senator DiBenedetto moved to approve. Senator Nichols seconded. The motion passed with 15 in favor, 2 opposed (Harrington,Smith) and 0 abstaining. Senator Holm asked to be excused for the duration of the meeting, due to conflicting interest. Senate President Haldeman excused him from the meeting at 4:40 p.m. Q. Motion to dissolve the CRI, revoke CSUNRS 202. Senator Tristam moved to dissolve. Senator Chadwell seconded. Senator DiBenedetto objected to the consideration of the question. Senator Larson seconded. The objection was not sustained with 3 in favor (DiBenedetto,Kowalczyk,Larson) and 12 opposed, and 1 abstaining (Varona). The motion to dissolve the CRI passed with 9 in favor, 6 opposed (DiBenedetto, Hendrick, Kowalczyk,Davis,Larson,Champagne) and 1 abstaining (Varona). R. Impeachment of Senator Holm for conduct unbecoming of a CSUN Official. Senator Harrington moved to discuss. Senator Nichols seconded. Senator Harrington presented the charges against Senator Holm. Senate President Haldeman discussed the issue and reason for setting up a committee. Senator DiBenedetto requested that Dean Daniels, Fred Tredup or Jim Kitchen be selected to sit on the committee. Senator Chadwell requested that none of the members on the committee be a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Senators' DiBenedetto, Harrington, Smith and Davis expressed an interest to be placed on the committee. S. Approval of creation of Ad Hoc Impeachment Committee. No action will be taken until the next Senate Meeting 15-21. T. Approval of Reprimand of Senator Holm for conduct unbecoming a CSUN Official. No action will be taken until the next Senate Meeting 15-21. Open Discussion Senator DiBenedetto congradulated Cathy Clay for being selected by the Review Journal as one of Las Vegas's Outstanding Women. Senator Hendrick discussed Harry Reid's visit to the campus. S.M. 15-20 -5- Senator Acker arrived at the meeting at 5:00 p.m. Senator Champagne expressed his concern of "junk mail" being placed in his box. Senator Clay asked the Senate to look closer at the Financial Management Funding request for approval, as they have attended two meetings. Senator Smith expressed his interest in being nominated Radio Board Chairman again for the following term. Senate President Haldeman announced that he will be out of town until Monday. X. These include the Entertainment and Programming Board, the Elec-tion Board, the Appropriations Board, and the Judicial Council, CSUN also provides students an opportunity to practice their communication skills in both The Yeilin' Rebel and CSUN's own FM radio station, KUNV. These are only a few of the many opportunities CSUN provides for students to enrich their education both socially and academically. KUNV. CSUN operates and manages Las Vegas' most powerful public radio station, KUNV 91.5 FM, broad-casting a variety of music, news, sports and features programming 24 hours a day with 14,700 watts of stereo power. There are numerous opportunities for UNLV students to involve themselves as deejays, announcers, news and sports reporters, technicians, managers, editors, writers, etc. No previous radio training or ex-perience is required — free communication seminars and workshops are offered every semester. Internship and independent study credit for KUNV participation can be arranged through the communication studies department and other UNLV departments. The Yeilin" Rebel. The weekly campus newspaper, The Yeilin*Rebel, is edited entirely by students, reflects stu-dent viewpoints and provides a valuable training ground for students interested in journalism and advertising careers. The newspaper is distributed free on campus. Entertainment and Programming Board. This board is comprised solely of students and is responsible for planning, administering and presenting a wide variety of social, cultural, and educational programs for the university community. Membership of the board con-sists of five undergraduate students at large, three CSUN senators, and a student chairman. Student Judicial Council. The council is responsible for interpreting the CSIJN Constitution and its bylaws. The council may act as arbitrator between CSUN-recognized organizations and entities of the University of Nevada System. Council members are appointed to a term of two years by the CSUN Executive Board and the CSUN Senate. Student Organizations. A variety of student clubs and organizations supplement intellectual and social development at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
