1-733^ July 9 , 19^7 Yesterday 1 attended meeting at Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Building with a committee of the Chamber consisting of Messrs. Archie Grant, Carl Hyde and Paul McDermott, the latter President of the Chamber, with Mr. Joel MoQuilkin serving as secretary, concerning the proposed formation of a water district to bring about obtaining water from Lake Mead to supplement the underground supply. Also attending the meeting was Mr. Frederick F. Barker, representing Garrett-Bromfield & Co, and Crocker and Ryan, the Denver bond house which issued the prospectus last May. Mr. Grant asked what progress had been made with Union Pacific with respect to allowing the water producing and distribution systems to become a part of the project. I advised Mr. Grant that we are at present having outside engineers make an appraisal of our properties, but that no action had been taken with our executives in the matter as we had no data to go forward with. After some discussion the following procedure was decided upon: 1. Secure definite information as to ability to acquire the BMI pumping plant, reservoir, pipe line and treating plant. 2. How much water the existing plant will furnish in excess of the present and probable needs of industries at Henderson. 3. Feasibility of installing another unit. (It was felt that the above information could be secured from engineers of the Montgomery Company with respect to the physical aspects, and from State or Federal authorities with respect to acquisition of the facilities without the expenditure of any money). k . Have County Engineer study the recently enacted Enabling Act and advise what steps should be taken to form a water district taking in the present City Airport on the north, the proposed City Airport south of the Flamingo Hotel on the south, and intervening territory. 5. Confer with pounty Commissioners with respect to employment by the County of a competent engineering firm to make a study of the general situation with recommendation as to present requirements and the estimated cost thereof, with data for amplification of that supply in event future growth demands, the survey to show probable number of users and probable net revenue therefrom that would be applicable ( 1 )
