SUBJECT: Water rights - Surface and Underground, Las Vegas. Los Angeles, C al., July 12, 1924. U r. McN&mee: I enclose le tt e r from Mr. Knickerbocker answering certain questions re lative to the water situation at Las Vegas. I presume the questions were framed by you and that the data furnished w ill be used in preparing papers fo r appropriating the water. 1 suggest that you now proceed, i f you have su fficien t information, to prepare the necessary papers appropriating the water, as outlined In our conference with Mr. Knickerbocker. The appropriations, as X remember, were to be as follow s: F ir s t : The Railroad Company to appropriate sufficien t water for it s needs from the new w ell. Second: The Las Vegas Company to appropriate a given amount o f water from the new well for municipal purposes. Third: The Las Vegas Company to appropriate any surplus water from the well fo r agricu ltu ral purposes. My understanding is that no appropriation of the waters of the old springs is necessary so long as the Las Vegas Company applies the same either for municipal purposes or fo r agricu ltu ral purposes in connection with the farming o f the lands forming a part o f the o rigin a l Stewart Ranch.
