October 17th, 1951 PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF NEVADA Carson City, Nevada Gentlemen: Mr. W. H, Johnson, Manager of the Las Vegas Land & Water Company, has been contacted and thru him we are advised that water service for our Ready-Mixed Concrete Plant here in Las Vegas at present is being classified as "water for concrete work". It is our understanding no precedent can be followed in classifying our operation for we are the only plant in Las Vegas utilizing city water service. The rate for this useage, we understand, is 5-^ cents per cubic yard of concrete based on our monthly production. We feel justified in requesting a re-classification of our rate, on the basis that we are different from temporary users, such as concrete constractors moving from job to job. We have set up permanently in Las Vegas, having assumed the initial expense of installing our waterline, in addition to sponsoring the project to include an additional six commerical users of water, our present rate is not in parity with adjoining consumers availing themselves of this service. On the basis of our present production, we are processing in the neighborhood of 2,400 cubic yards of concrete monthly, which at 5-|- cents per cubic yard would result in a charge to us of $132.00 per month, in this production we would use from 30 to 35 gallons per yard, or from 72,000 to 84,000 gallons per month. The average per capita consumption in Las Vegas of culinary water we are advised is about 750 gallons per day. This would result in a per capita useage of approximately 22,500 gallons per month. Residential users we understand pay under $3.00 per month for the 22,500 gallons whereas we are being obliged to pay for this same gallonage approximately eleven times as much.
