Evans * letter of January 2Sth next attached, in regard t© \ rental hills of the California Hatnal Packing Company* it seems that Hr* Woodill is undertaking to offset the rental charges pending against him hy demanding credit for certain V equipment and machinery installed hy him in the house., \ ? \ , v\ fhere is no consistency in the practice which has been indulged in hy some of our lessees on their own initiative going into the market and purchasing equipment and r yU-<l appliances for packing-houses occupied hy them under lease* [n/'1'' l\ with the expectation of the Hailroad Company assuming those v obligations, phis has occurred in one or two instances heretofore, notably in the case of the Sutherland fruit Company, hut X feel that lessees should he given to understand moat definitely that such transactions on their part pi© ce the Hailroad Company under no obligations whatever tinder the lease contracts, or otherwise* Hrwe yon record of any agreement with Woodill to the effect that he would he allowed credit for the material and equipment covered hy the enclosed hill* If not, and there is no good reason for disposing of the mnttor otherwise, I feel that we should notify Hr* Woodill that we will expect him to assume the burden of obligations incu vred hy him in purchasing this machinery, find that we likewise expect him to pay the rental hills as called for in the -ease* Enel* CC-T.M.S* J.M*B* Yours very truly,
