Las Vegas, Nevada June 6, 1956 A regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada held this 6th day of June, 1956 was called to order at the hour of 7.30 P.M. by Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C. D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner E. W. Fountain Commissioner Harris P. Sharp Commissioner Reed Whipple City Manager A. H. Kennedy Administrative Asst. Robert Boos City Attorney Howard W. Cannon City Engineer George E. Wade Director of Planning Franklin J. Bills City Clerk Shirley Ballinger This being the time heretofore set for the public hearing on the proposed annexation of that area generally described as that property bounded on the east by H Street, on the West by Highland Drive, on the north by Vegas Heights Subdivision and on the South by Highland Square Subdivision, more particularly described as follows, to-wit: N½ of the SE¼ of Section 21, T20S, R61E, MDB&M, and the North 330 feet of the SW¼ of the SE¼ of Section 21, T20S, R61E, MDB&M. His Honor announced that the recommendation from the Planning Commission approving this annexation had been received by the Board on May 2, 1956 at which time this hearing was set. His Honor then asked if there was anyone present who wished to protest this proposed annexation. No objection was voiced nor placed on file. Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved the annexation of the above described property be approved and the City Attorney instructed to prepare the necessary ordinance. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TO, AND MAKING A PART OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, CERTAIN SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBED TERRITORY ADJOINING AND CONTIGUOUS TO THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS; DECLARING SAID TERRITORY AND INHABITANTS TO BE ANNEXED THERETO AND SUBJECT TO ALL LAWS AND ORDINANCES; ORDERING A PLAT SHOWING SAID TERRITORY TO BE RECORDED IN THE OFFICE OF THE COUNTY RECORDER OF THE COUNTY OF CLARK, STATE OF NEVADA; AND PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. At this time City Engineer George E. Wade presented the final plans for the addition to the City Jail and Police Department that had been revised to conform with the request of the Commission on May 31; 1956 and recommended the same be approved. He reported the estimated cost was $l40,000.00. Thereafter Commissioner Sharp moved the final plans for the addition to the City Jail and Police Department be approved as recommended by the City Engineer, and that authorization be granted to call for bids for the construction to be opened on July 10, 1936. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Engineer Wade presented the revised final plans for the Rehabilitation Farm estimated to cost $33,000 and reported that all changes as requested by the Commission had been made. Mr. Wade recommended that these plans be approved. Commissioner Sharp moved the final plans for the Rehabilitation Farm be approved and that construction bids be called to be opened July 10, 1956. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. The City Engineer presented the final map of Crestview Estates Subdivision and recommended this map be approved. Commissioner Sharp moved the recommendation of the City Engineer be accepted and the final map of Crestview Estates Subdivision be approved and the Mayor and Clerk authorized to sign same. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. It was the recommendation of the City Engineer that the improvements in Twin Lakes Village Tract No. 5 be accepted and the bond for said improvements posted by the subdivider released. Commissioner Bunker moved the recommendation of the Engineer be approved and the improvements on Twin Lakes Village Tract No. 5 accepted and the bond released. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Engineer reported that the installation of improvements in Assessment District No. 200-17, Westside sewer district, were approximately 80% complete, and recommended the request of the Contractor, Espy Brothers, for payment in the amount of $15,818.13 be approved. Commissioner Fountain moved the request of Espy Brothers for partial payment on Assessment District No. 200-17 in the total amount of $15,818.13 be approved and the warrant issued.
