Las Vegas, Nevada February 28, 1955 (CALL OF SPECIAL MEETING) A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada held this 28th day of February, 1955 was called to order at the hour of 7:30 P.M. by His Honor Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C. D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner Harris P. Sharp Commissioner Reed Whipple City Manager George H. Rounthwaite Assistant City Manager Robert W. Notti City Attorney Howard W. Cannon City Engineer George E. Wade City Clerk Shirley Ballinger Absent: Commissioner Rex A. Jarrett Discussion was held on the City Budget for 1955, and it was determined that there is an excess of approximately $43,000.00 more requested than there is estimated available funds. Commissioner Bunker moved that Commissioner Whipple be delegated to work over and balance the budget. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and lost by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker and Sharp voting aye; noes, Commissioner Whipple and Mayor Baker. Absent: Commissioner Jarrett. Thereafter the Commission instructed the Assistant City Manager and the Director of Finance to balance the budget and have it ready for approval March 2, 1955 at 7:00 P.M. Commissioner Bunker moved that the Municipal Election be held May 3, 1955 and the following proclamation adopted: WHEREAS, it appears that the Charter of the City of Las Vegas provides that a General. Election be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May, 1955; in the City of Las Vegas, for the election at large by the qualified voters of the City of a Mayor, two Commissioners of the first and third class, respectively, and a Judge of the Municipal Court, NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, that such General Election be held in the City of Las Vegas on May 3; 1955; at which election there shall be elected at large by the qualified voters of said City, a Mayor who shall be elected and hold office for a period of four years and until his successor is elected and qualified; two Commissioners, one of the first class and one of the third class, who shall be elected and hold office for a period of four years and until their successors are elected and qualified; and a Judge of the Municipal Court, who shall be elected and hold office for a period of four years and until his successor shall be elected and qualified, and IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, that the places in said City of holding said election are hereby determined as follows: Precinct No. 1 - Wildcat Lair, 300 North 4th Precinct No. 2 - Elks Club, 128 South 3rd Precinct No. 3 - Grammar School Gym, 417 South 4th Precinct No. 4 - Elks Club, 128 South 3rd Precinct No. 5 - Wildcat Lair, 300 North 4th Precinct No. 6 - Wildcat Lair, 300 North 4th Precinct No. 7 - Grammar School Gym, 417 South 4th Precinct No. 8 - Plumbers Hall, 714 South 1st Precinct No. 9 - Marble Manor, 811 "I" Street Precinct No. 10 - Roberts School of Dance, 207 North 9th Precinct No. 11 - Marble Manor, 811 "I" Street Precinct No. 12 - Plumbers Hall, 714 South 1st Precinct No. 13 - Helldorado Village, 500 North 5th Precinct No. 14 - High School Gym, 315 South 7th Precinct No. 15 - High School Gym, 315 South 7th Precinct No. 16 - High School Gym, 315 South 7th Precinct No. 17 - Fire Station, 1100 E.
