INFORMAL BID The Commission considered the bids received for Informal Bid #I-19-59 for the #I-19-59 Replacement of Concrete Floor at Industrial Fire Station. Public Works Replace Concrete Department recommended that E. M. Kaufield & Sons be awarded the contract for Floor; Industrial their bid of $1,068.25. Two bids were submitted, but the second bid of Fire Station Stocks Mill & Supply Company was withdrawn due to an error; engineer's estimate was $1,095. E. M. Kaufield & Sons Commissioner Sharp suggested a soil analysis be made of the sub-base material by the Nevada Testing Laboratories, to determine compaction requirements and Award the amount of base material required. Commissioner Whipple moved Informal Bid #I19-59 be awarded to E. M. Kaufield & Sons in the amount of $1,068.25, subject to test being made by the Nevada Testing Laboratories. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor Mayor Gragson voting aye; noes, none. BID NO. 59.12 Director of Public Works Sauer advised the Street Department was in need of (PART) gravel on the east side of the railroad tracks and added that sometime ago Type 2 Aggregate H. W. Polk was awarded a part of Bid No. 59.12 for the furnishing of 5,000 cu. yds. of Type 2 Aggregate, to be delivered east of the railroad tracks at Wells Cargo, Inc. $1.29 per cu. yd.; subsequently, bid was withdrawn from this contractor and no gravel obtained under this contract. Award Mr. Sauer advised Wells Cargo, Inc., the company awarded the other part of Bid No. 59.12 for the furnishing of 10,000 cu. yds. of Type 2 Aggregate, to be delivered west of the railroad tracks, at $1.20 per cu. yd., would take over H. W. Polk's portion of this contract for delivery east of the railroad tracks at $1.29 per cu. yd., furthermore, Mr. Sauer stated he had checked with the City Attorney's Office and had been advised this would be legal. His Honor Mayor Gragson asked if other companies had the opportunity to rebid this, and Mr. Sauer advised that, of all the original bids submitted, these were the two low quotations. Commissioner Whipple moved that part of Bid No. 59.12 for 5,000 cu. yds. of Type 2 Aggregate for delivery east of the railroad tracks, originally given to H. W. Polk, be awarded to Wells Cargo, Inc. in the amount of $1.29 per cu. yds., on the basis of the City Attorney's recommendation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Elwell, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor Mayor Gragson voting aye; noes, none. SERVICE LEAGUE Deputy City Attorney Whitmore read a proposed resolution renaming a part of the CENTER Lions Club Park as "Service League Center," to be developed by the Service Lions Club Park League. Resolution Commissioner Fountain moved the following resolution be adopted and order made: Adopted RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of Las Vegas is interested in the installation and maintenance of additional parks and park facilities throughout the City; and WHEREAS, it is desirable in connection therewith to provide and designate areas within the City; and WHEREAS, the SERVICE LEAGUE of Las Vegas desires to establish and maintain an area for recreational purposes within the City; and WHEREAS, it would be in the best interests of the City, and all concerned, that a portion of Lions Club Park be designated and renamed as a recreational area to be established by the Service League; and 11-18-59
