Las Vegas • May 27, 1943 W 23-1-20-A Mr. Frank Strong; Referring to ay telegram B-7 October 7, 1942, your 8-194 and 8-198, in connection with ay request for authority to extend water stain across Fremont Street froa Mayfair Tract No. 1 to Mayfair Tract No. 3, in order to afford adequate service to the latter. Luring the past week we have reosived numerous complaints regarding low water pressure and they are all centered in one district of town, that is, the 14th Street Addition. As you will recall we took over the operation of the 14th Street Company*a water line when they abandoned same and have been serving water to the residents of that tract thru that Company*® 4-lnoh oast iron main. At the time contracts were entered into with Ernest Allen covering installation of water mains in Mayfair Tract No, 3 the closest main was that of the 14th Street Company about 300 feet away. However after the water main was extended into Mayfair Tract 1, I felt the furnishing of adequate service would require an extension across Fremont Street froa the $-lnoh main where there is adequate pressure. The difficulty in the 14th Street Addition seems to be that most of the water is drained off from the lower end of the line between Olbson 4 Jones Addition at the end and also the Intermediate consumers; with the result that those people living at the brow of the hill around 14th St. are almost entirely out of water between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily. When the houses in Mayfair Tract No. 3 are occupied and water is being used by them from this game line, it is obvious there will not be a sufficient supply for either the 14th Street Addition or Mayfair Tract No. 3. Two days ago when complaints were received from practically all of that section our Investigation developed that some unknown party had opened a fire hydrant on the 4-inoh line, leaving the consumers without any water at all. I regret that we did not Install this feeder line across Fremont last fall before the State Installed the present four-lane highway at 15th and Fremont. However, I feel that we should get right after this work immediately. We do not have sufficient 6-inch pipe on hand to install this extension which will amount to about 900 feet, but do
