DRAFT Minutes of the Meeting of Board of Directors and Officers of Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada (HSGSN) at the Venetian Hotel and Casino, December 10, 2000. Present: D. Aviv, L. Bauer, D. Berkovits, M. Berkovits, G. Guzik, J. Guzik, G. Klonoff, J. Krauze, H. Kronberg, L. Lebovic, B. Lesser, J. Lesser, P. Oehlbaum, A. Schuster, H. Schuster, P. Zimmerman. Absent: H. Blitzer, A. Kuechel, N. Phillips, S. Pressberg, I. President Henry Schuster chaired the Meeting and called the Meeting to order at 12:05 PM. 2. President and Committee Reports: Presidents Reports a. President Schuster announced that the Organization is now incorporated. The Organization is in the process of procuring an IRS employment number which would give us not-for polit. status. Thus, all gifts to HSGSN will be tax-deductible. b. The Minutes of the last two Meetings were distributed to all Officers and Board Members. c. Willie Lebovic is now official photographer d. The President reported on his recent trip East. He met with Ben Meed to re-discuss the potential of having a National Meeting of Survivors in Las Vegas in 2002. Mr. Meed needs a letter towards our intent. He also reported his Meeting with officials of the Claims Conference. The President also encourages all of the members to send several (distributed) form letters to Rabbis Miller and Singer, and others, protesting that monies earmarked for survivors should go directly to those duly entitled to same. e. The President also discussed the possibility of the creation of "Cafe Europa" in Las Vegas. f. The President sought advice regards issuing "Honorary Members" Certificates to persons who have been very helpful to the Organization. Everyone concurred that this was a good idea. g. One copy of the potential official letter head was circulated. There were suggestions of potential improvement and the Chair invited submission of other designs. h. The Chair accepted a draft of the By-Laws of the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada (from George Guzik), to be officially adopted at the next Meeting Treasurer and Fund-raisers Reports a. Treasurer Jean Lesser reported that the bank account of the Group is $3073.01 b. Fund raiser Lydia Lebovic told the Group that current contributions totaled SI 15. The Group was instructed by the President to encourage members to spread the word on contributions to this Fund as tax-deductible contributions. c. The President announced that the Federation will pay up to $600 towards mailings. Other Reports a. Chronicle: Myra Berkovits and Jody Guzik agreed to produce the next issue b. Members of the Convention Committee exploring the potential National Meeting of Survivors were encouraged to meet with Sheldon Adelson for a Meeting of some 2000- 3000 attendees. New Business a. It was suggested to the Chair that a "Calendar" be developed for dates, places and speakers for future Meetings. There should be a calendar for at least 6 months ahead. The next Meeting is tentatively scheduled for about mid-February, to take place at New Tamid. b. Several individuals, like Martin Goldman, Director of Survivor Affairs for the Holocaust Museum, and Rabbi Cooper Simon of the Wiesenthal Museum have expressed interest to come and address our Group. c. There was considerable discussion of the Group's input into the Yom Hashoa Program, currently scheduled for Beth Sholom. It was suggested that the President explore with Rabbi F. Goodman some potential speakers for that upcoming program next May. d. The President encouraged every one present to send a letter to Sheldon Adelson to thank him very much for providing the room and lunch for the Chanukah Party which was held immediately following this Meeting of the Executive Committee The meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM Minutes of the General Meeting (Chanukah Party) of the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada (HSGSN) at the Venetian Hotel and Casino, 1:00 PM, December 10, 2000. President Schuster opened the general meeting of the group. Some 100 persons or more were in attendance. He reiterated a number of the items deliberated upon by the Executive Committee . Entertainment was provided so beautifully by the piano music and voice of Don Friend. The general Meeting adjourned about 3:30 PM.
