157 ATTEST: Secretary of Las Vegas Valley Water District and Board of Directors thereof APPROVED AS TO FORM AND EXECUTION THIS ________ DAY OF ___________ [ APPROVED: President of Las Vegas Valley Water District and Board of Directors thereof 19_____• Attorney for Las Vegas Valley Water District Director Cornwall asked if it would be possible to have someone in the District's organization do the job. President Campbell explained that primarily this was a design problem requiring a variety of talents, which the District does not have available. In response to a question, the Manager advised that he could design certain parts of it if he had the time, but would require the services of an electrical engineer for the electrical and control portions. He noted that Montgomery had prepared the original plans and could design the addition with less work than some other engineer. In response to another question, the Manager advised that the fee was slightly higher than he had originally estimated, but that it included supervision of the final tests, requiring travel of an engineer to Las Vegas which he had not contemplated at the time of making the original estimate. He pointed out that the cost of engineering on very 1 jobs is difficult to estimate and that he did not feel that the quoted figure was out of line. A motion was then made by Director Miller, seconded by Director Cornwall, and unanimously approved by the four Directors present, that the proposal for design of an additional pump on the Hyde Park system as submitted by J. M. Montgomery be accepted, and that the proper officers be authorized to execute same on behalf of the District. CHAftT.ES GRKEN- SICK LEAVE President Campbell announced that the next item on the agenda was consideration of granting sick leave for Charles Green, a District employee. He mentioned that he had received a phone call from Green and had referred him to the Manager. He then asked the Manager to discuss the matter. The Manager advised that Green had presented a doctor's certificate covering the period November 22 to December 1, but had been absent for approximately one week before that time and one week after. On the basis of certain phone calls he had had from Green during the period of his absence, he had reason to doubt that the primary reason for the absence was sickness. For this reason, the Manager was not inclined to grant sick leave for the period covered by the doctor's certificate, but presented the matter to the Board because of the unusual circumstances. Director Thorn mentioned that he had also been contacted by Green during the period of his absence. After a brief discussion, the Board expressed the opinion that the Manager was correct in not approving sick leave.
