SHARP Las Vegas, Nevada March l4, 1957 (CALL OF SPECIAL MEETING) A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada held this l4th day of March, 1957 was called to order at the hour of 4:50 P.M. by His Honor Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C.D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner Harris P. Sharp Commissioner Reed Whipple City Manager A.H. Kennedy Asst. City Attorney Ralston O. Hawkins City Clerk Shirley Lodwick Absent: Commissioner E.H. Fountain City Attorney Howard W. Cannon Commissioner Whipple moved that a telegram be sent to the Clark County Delegation at the Legislature requesting their support of the Convention Hall legislation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Fountain. Commissioner Sharp moved the creation of the Department of Public Safety be approved, to include the Police and Fire Departments, and that Elmer Gates be appointed as Acting Director of Public Safety at the pleasure of the Board in addition to his duties as Fire Chief at a salary of $900.00 per month. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Fountain. There being no further business to came before the Board, Commissioner Sharp moved this meeting adjourn. Motion seconded by Commissioner Bunker and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Fountain.
