Sell a few days ago regarding item nuts for ths 8-inch gate waives? While we have not as yet received the four (4) stem nuts from Prove, wieh to express our appreciation of your courtesy in ordering these for us at no charge to serve as replacements for the stem nuts that have broken in use* Under separate cover, we are sending to you one of the broken stem nuts for your analysis and investigation of cause of breakage This particular one has been removed from a valve placed in service in January, 1945, The valve itself is enclosed in a concrete box and has only been operated twice during its serviot the third tine the stem nut broke. It appears, from our viewpoint, that the casting is defeo-tive and we trust that this particular one which we are sending you will be of some help in correcting the condition, for as you know this is the third one that has broken in the same manner in the past eighteen (18) months.
