Call to Order The twenty-third meeting of the Consolidated Student Senate was called to order at 4 p.m. by Senate President Burzinski. II. Approval of Minutes //22 There being no additions or corrections the minutes of Senate Meeting #22 stood approved. IV. Executive Board Announcements A. Introduction of Guests Senate President Burzinski introduced Regent Karmanos, and Judy Butler.President, Clark County Community College Student Association. At this time Regent Karmanos, who is running for re-election of University Regent spoke to the Senate. Questions and answers followed Regent Karamanos' speech. B. Dean of Students President Chanos announced that he received a letter from Dr. Goodall asking CSUN to nominate to students to serve on the committee, Dean of Student 3 . He nominated Martin J. Burzinski and Susana Reyes to serve on this committee. Senate Meeting //23 October 28, 1980 Page 2 C. Basketball Tickets President Chanos announced that the Athletic Department will be providing CSUN with 1000 tickets for students. These tickets will be available for $1.00 two days prior to each home game. . D. Microtech President Chanos announced that the Yell will be having a brief presentation in the Fireside Lounge on October 29 to show how to use the Yell's new micotech machine. E. Senate President Chanos and Vice-President Reyes thanked the Senators for an enjoyable year and they appreciated their support and hard work. The both wished best of luck to all the Senator leaving. F. Regent's Meeting Vice-President Reyes announced that CSUN will be making a presentation to the Regent's concerning the appeal of the plus/minus grading system. She asked that each Senator Calk with their instructors and discuss their views about the plus/minus grading system. Vice-President Reyes further asked the Senators to request letters of support from instructors in favor of the straight letter grade system. G. New Senate Packets Senate President Burzinski announced that there are Senate Packets for the Senators who will begin a new term on November 1, 1980. He asked each Senator to come by his office and pick up the packet personally from him. H. Parliamentary Workshop Senate President Burzinski announced that there would be a Parliamentary workshop tomorrow at 8 p.m. on Eastern and Maryland Parkway. He invited anyone to attend the workshop. I. Pictures Senate President Burzinski announced that pictures will be taken next Tuesday for the yearbook. J. Agenda Senate President Burzinski announced that he would be doing the agenda tomorrow because Friday is not a college working day. All agenda requests must be submitted in writing no later than Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. K. Thank-you Senate President Burzinski thanked all the Senators for their support, and wished those leaving the best of luck. He hoped that they will continue to be interested in CSUN. VI. Committee Reports A. Appropriations Board There was no report. Chairman Martinez urged the Executive Board to nominate two Senators so that the board can operate. B. Election Board Chairman Boos read the minutes of the Election Board. It was moved by the board that all candidates who did not turn in their campaign expenditure sheet by October 16 by 5 p.m. would loose their $15 filing fee. Also, the board certified the elections. Senate Meeting //23 October 28, 1980 Page 3 Senator Boos moved to approve the report of October 23, 1980, excluding the certification of the CSUN Senate elections. The motion was seconded. There being no further additions or corrections the report stood approved. 1. Certification of Elections Senator Boos moved to certify the CSUN Senate Elections. The motion was seconded. The motion passed with fourteen in favor and one abstention. C. Organizations Board Senator Mack Jackson read the minutes of the Organizations Board. He announced that the board approved to meet on the 1st and 3rd Thurday of each month starting November 1st, Senator Jackson moved to approve. The motion was seconded. There being no further additions or corrections the minutes stood approved as read. D. Entertainment and Programming Board Chairman Smith read the minutes of Meeting //13 held on October 1, 1980. At the meeting it was approved to give Delta Zeta $300 for Octoberfest set-up and clean-up. Also it was moved to show "All that Jazz" on April 21-22. Senator Wild moved to approve. The motion was seconded. There being no further additions or corrections the minutes stood approved as read. Chairman Smith read the minutes of Meeting //14 held on October 15, 1980. Homecoming was discussed, there will be a semi-formal dance on November 7. There will be a Toga party on November 8. There was a motion to approve $600 to two new yravfe punk rock groups for the Toga party. Senator Wild moved to approve. The motion was seconded. There being no further additions or corrections the minutes stood approved as read. Chairman Smith went over the schedule for Homecoming. Chairman Smith read the minutes of meeting //15 held on October 22, 1980. The board approved a budget of $4,343.60 for homecoming. The Board will be approving the Spring Semester calendar on Sunday anyone is welcomned to attend. Senator Petrizzo moved to approve. The motion was seconded. There being no further additions or corrections the minutes stood approved as read. E. By-Laws Committee There was no report. F. Ad Hoc Constitutional Revision Committee Senate President Burzinski announced that there would be a meeting one week from tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. in his office. Vice-President Reyes moved to give each member of the Election Board a Done-Good award also, Sandy Castleberry and Lorraine Alderman for their help^ a Done-good award. VII. Old Business A. Report from the Impeachment Committee. Senator Wild moved to approve Resolution 1 (see attached). The motion was seconded. The motion passed with ten in favor, one opposed and three abstentions. Senator Wild moved to to approve Resolution 2.(see attached) The motion was seconded. Discussion took place. The motion passed with nine in favor, three opposed, and two abstentions. Senate Meeting //23 October 28, 1980 Page 4 IX. Open Discussion Senator Martinez asked the Executive Board to complete the Senate nominations for Appropriations Board as soon as possible. Senator Foskaris commented that it was pleasure working with all the Senators that will be leaving. President Chanos and Senator Corbett discussed the possibility of raffling off basketball tickets to the students and the method to use. Senator Boos thanked the Senate for an enjoyable term as Senator of the College of Business and Economics. Radford Smith announced that the Plus 1 Organization had a dance and the turn out was not well, however, he recommended that this organization always be given high consideration on any request they may make. John Wennstrom announced that the Radio Station had a staff meeting. There are now 46 people serving on the Radio staff. X. Burzinski CSUN Senate President Robin Starlin CSUN Senate Secretary Ad Hoc Impeachment Committee Resolution Number 2 10281980 Whereas, Senator Ray Corbett of the Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada (CSUN) while acting as Director of Intramural Sports of CSUN did initiate a purchase requisition on 22 August 1980 for Intramural staff T-shirts with the Intramural's logo, and Whereas, Senator Ray Corbett while acting as Director of Intramural Sports for CSUN did successfully negotiate with the local Coors' distributor to supply funds for the CSUN Intramural Sports on 5 September 1980, and Whereas, Senator Ray Corbett did order, by telephone, inclusion of the Coors' logo on the ordered T-shirts on 5 September 1980 so that he could use the funds supplied by the local Coors' distributor for purchasing the T-shirts, and Whereas, Senator Ray Corbett did not immediately inform the CSUN Executive Board of his action of placing the Coors' logo on the T-shirts, and Therefore, be it resolved that the Ad Hoc Committee finds Senator Ray Corbett guilty of the charges of willful and intentional violation of University Purchasing Procedures and of failing to notify the Executive Board in advance of his actions. However, due to extenuating circumstances impeach-ment is not recommended, but the committee recommends that the CSUN Senate reprimand him. CONSOLIDATED STUDENTS UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS 4505 Maryland Parkway Las Vegas, Nevada 89154 Telephone (702) 739-3477 CONSOLIDATED STUDENTS UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS 4505 Maryland Parkway Las Vegas, Nevada 89154 Telephone (702) 739-3477 Ad Hoc Impeachment Committee Resolution No. 1 10281980 Whereas, On September 1, 1980, Senator Ray Corbett of the Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada, (CSUN) while acting in the capacity of Director of Intramural Sports for CSUN, ordered a fellow student to climb over the wall of the CSUN Business Manager's office in order to secure a Xerox Auditron, and Whereas, the Xerox Auditron retrieved from Business Manager's Office was used on that day for Intramurals material only, and Whereas, proper entry was made of the auditron use on the Xerox reconciliation sheet, and Whereas, no attempt was made to re-enter the Business Manager's Office to return the auditron in order to conceal the event, and Therefore, be it resolved that the CSUN Ad Hoc Impeachment Committee finds Senator Ray Corbett guilty of this charge. However, due to extenuating circumstances impeachment is not recommended, but the committee recommends that the CSUN Senate reprimand him.
