Letter and envelope (stamp removed) from Nellie Harrison, Kanab, Utah, to Mary Syphus, Provo City, Utah, dated October 15, 1893.
Envelope addressed:
Miss Mary Syphus Provo City Utah, Co.
B.Y.U. Utah
Kanab. Oct. 15^-h 1893 Miss Mary Syphus
Provo City Dearest Mary.
Words are inadequate from you to express my delight at receiving a letter,/ but I must first tell you that I was not aware of Ma sending that old letter, and I haven’t any lidea what
I said, but remember that after reading
I thought it that / it wasn't nice enough to send, so never posted it. I am glad ma sent it as it has brought me a letter from you and it just came in time to drive off a miserable spell of the "blues."
Do you get them very often? I hope you are not bothered as much as I
am.
I must find out some remedy soon or I'll be sick.
You said you hoped I should like

my school as well as I anticipated,
line 4
and I am pleased to tell you that
line 5
I am agreeabley surprised in the
line 6
school, althoug the children are hard
line 7
to keep quiet yet net I cannot say
line 8
they are hard to govern as they will
line 9
do any thing they are asked to and
line 10
suffer punishment without a murmer
line 11
and I am very glad they will do that.
line 12
I have 55 students.
line 13
Well, dear Mary, I hope you will be benefited
line 14
by attending school as much as you expected
line 15
and also that you will not be home
line 16
sick too much. Homesickness has but
line 17
one remedy besides home and that comes
line 18
only through prayer and the goodness
line 19
of our heavenly Father or at least
line 20
I find it so.
line 21
Some of my happiest moments away
line 22
Page 3
from home have been in the solace of

prayer. It seems to me that then I
line 2
can feel consoled / than at any other
line 3
time.
line 4
I am very glad that you like your
line 5
school and teachers as that will
line 6
make you feel at home more than as if you disliked both or either
I saw Bro. : Brimhall & Cluff at Beaver and I just loved them both and know that you could not help it.
There is one very bad feature in Kanab and that is the sand. If I should attempt to tell you I know you couldn't believe me for M never would believe At if I had not seen it. You never saw anyth1^ deep an(^ hard to walk through® Our cloths look
Uike we never did change them.
But we do.- honest,, we do.
Joe Robinson is going to attend school in Provo after Christmas
so you will get to see him and
Minnie, also that lovely baby of their's| He is a beauty^-
Nellie Thornton and a are here boarding at the same placeW NellSe has a school about a block south of mini. Bb
The people here are very kind to us and do all they can for our pleasure H
