Mrs. Hawkins' property is 100 feet wide and l40 feet in depth. It was the decision of the Commission that the City Manager should contact Mrs. Hawkins further concerning the cost of leasing this lot and then refer the matter to the Traffic and Parking Commission for recommendation. City Engineer George E. Wade recommended that Bid No. 55.20 for the Contract for Street Repair he awarded to the low bidder, Wells Cargo Construction Company in the total amount of $2,744.50. Commissioner Sharp stated that on September 7, 1955 the Burns Construction Company had appeared before the Commission, at which time they were ordered to bring the houses in Charleston Heights, Tract No. 5, known as Cliff May homes, up to Code. The representatives for this Company at this meeting made the statement that they would fix the discrepancies in the tract, but to date nothing has been done. City Manager A. H. Kennedy advised the Commission that the report from the structural engineer will be in on Friday, October 21, after which time a complete report can be made by the Building Department to the Board. Consideration was given at this time on the application of the Roman Bishop of the Catholic Church for a Use Permit to construct a church and rectory on property situated at the southeast comer of St. Louis and Eastern Avenues. Planning Director Franklin Bills stated that the applicant was anxious to commence construction on this building, the use permit for which had been continued by the Board of Commissioners from May 18, 1955 until the property has been acquired by the Church. No action was taken on the matter at this time. Consideration was given at this time to police inspection of the child nurseries in the City and investigation of applicants for this type of license. It was determined that the Police Department be instructed to make bi-monthly inspections of all child nursery schools and report their findings to the Commission. It was further authorized that all applicants for a nursery school license be investigated by the Police Department prior to the issuance of a license.
