Stuffing b o x is regularly furnished fo r grease seal required fo r m ost installations. W ater seal can be used instead if supply o f water for this p u rp ose is available o r if pum p handles clear water. P rop er glan d adjustm ent w ith a w ell p acked b o x w ill restrict the am ount o f sealing water needed fo r pum ps o f this size to less than J/2 gp m p er b ox . In depen den t sealing water supply, if used, should be at a pressure 5 to 10 psi greater than pum p d is­charge pressure. T h e vertical M C C and M C V pum ps are sup­p orted on a large diam eter fo o t o n the suc­tion e lb o w nozzle. T h e vertical M CF and M C Z pum ps are supported o n w in gs o n both sides o f the suction nozzle flange p rov id ed by m aking the flange o f a rectangular shape. W h en it is not desirable to disturb the driver o f a horizontal M C pum p and the pum p is to be dism antled w ith ou t disturbing the casing, a W atson -S picer flexible drive shaft o f p rop er length can be furnished in lieu o f a flexible cou p lin g. R em ovin g the shaft section p r o ­vides sufficient ro o m betw een the pum p and driver so the pum p rotor, stuffing b o x head and bearing fram e assem bly can be draw n tow ards the driver clear o f the pum p casin g and then lifted out.
