214 A special meeting of the board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas held this 30th day of December, 1952, was called to order at the hour of 7:40 P.M. by His Honor Mayor C.D. Baker with the following members present: Mayor C.D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner William Peccole Commissioner Reed Whipple City Attorney Howard W. Cannon City Manager Chet Shelley Asst. City Mgr. Dora Lord City Clerk Shirley Ballinger ABSENT: Commissioner Rex. Jarrett RESOLUTION Liquor Licenses Commissioner Peccole moved the following Resolution be adopted: WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 447 of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, limits the issuance of certain Liquor Licenses to one license per 1,000 population; and WHEREAS, the official United States census for the year 1950 discloses the population of the City of Las Vegas to be approximately 25,000 people; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has determined that the official census has not kept pace with the present population of the City of Las Vegas; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has submitted an estimated population for the City of Las Vegas wherein the figure is set at approximately 34,000; and WHEREAS, for the purpose of granting liquor licenses, the population of the City of Las Vegas, within the meaning and restrictions of Ordinance No. 447 should be determined to be 3 4 ,0 0 0 , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Commissioners at a regular meeting thereof, held on December 30, 1952, that the population of the City of Las Vegas, for the purpose of granting liquor licenses, as of January 1, 1953, is hereby let at 34,000. LIQUOR APPLICATIONS - New THE DEMIJOHN SUES LIQUOR STORE SWISS VILLAGE Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote; Commissioners Bunker, Peccole, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent. Commissioner Jarrett. Commissioner Whipple moved the following new applications for Liquor License for the 1st quarter of 1953 be approved, subject to investigation by the Police Department. O'Brien-Sullivan 1300 Block on Charleston Ret. Liq. Mina. & Cardinal Bernice Sue Morris 1234 South 5th Ret. Liquor Mina. Marion & Walter Wolfinger 116 North 5th St. Cabaret Liquor Motion seconded by Commissioner Peccole and carried by the following vote; Commissioners Bunker, Peccole, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Jarrett. SALLIE S'S LIQUOR STORE Com m issioner W hipple moved t h a t th e a p p l i c a t io n o f S a l l i e G ordon, DBA S a l l i e ' s Liquor Store, 2224 E. Charleston for a Retail Liquor Mina. License be approved in line with the annexation policy of the Commission to take land in its existing character and subject to amending ordinance to carry out the intents of the Board. Motion seconded by Commissioner Peccole and carried by the following vote; Commissioners Bunker, Peccole, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Jarrett. LIQUOR APPLICATIONS Changes At this time the following application for liquor licenses for the first quarter of 1953 being changes of applicant name of business, lessor, etc., were presented to the Board for their consideration.
