Donal Neil "Mike" O'Callaghan was Nevada's 23rd Governor from 1971 to 1979. O'Callaghan was born September 10, 1929 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. After serving in the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force, O'Callaghan completed his bachelor's and master's degree in education at the University of Idaho. After working as a high school history teacher for several years, O'Callaghan was appointed as regional director for the Office of Emergency Preparedness and later ran successfully for Nevada Governor. Donal Neil "Mike" O'Callaghan passed away on March 5, 2004 at the age of 74.
