Oskar J. W. Hansen was a sculptor best known for his artwork that is placed at the Hoover Dam, Winged Figures of the Republic. He was born in the late 1892 in Norway and came to America and naturalized as an American citizen at some point before his work on the Hoover Dam. In the late 1930s or early 1940s, he moved to Virginia and created art at his estate. The estate was called Pantops, located east of Charlottesville, Virginia. He is also known for his sculpture in Virginia, Liberty, located in Yorktown to commemorate the American Revolution War battle at Yorktown. His work in Virgina won Hansen the President's Medal of Merit for artistic achievement. Oskar Hansen died on August 31, 1971.
